Rita’s Rainbows Sock Drive

Sock Drive – February 6 thru February 20, 2019

Collecting socks to provide comfort and care – and smiles, too!

We collect socks throughout the year for children in need. However in February and August we collaborate with the Coryell family as we collect socks in memory of their daughter, Sera.

Sera lived here in San Luis Obispo and was studying to be a nurse practitioner when she passed away in August 2011. Sera often wore crazy knee high socks. Her parents and friends started a tradition to wear colorful and crazy knee socks in memory of Sera – on her birthday, February 26th.

In honor of the Coryell’s tradition we are seeking donations of colorful, whimsical, soft and comfy socks for children in need – ages one to 17. They will be distributed on Sera’s birthday. They will be given to the agencies that serve children in need including Martha’s Place, Prado/Maxine Lewis Memorial Homeless Shelter, Stand Strong/the Women’s Shelter SLO and Pregnancy and Parenting Support of San Luis Obispo County. This collection will fill a need at the shelters and provide them an inventory to help those children that come in and are in need of socks. The socks will be a colorful and caring reflection of both Sera and Rita. They are sure to warm the toes of children in need and bring a smile to their days!
